Pressing play on a video loads it from YouTube's privacy-enhanced domain, which does not set tracking cookies for viewing but may set functional storage of its own. Until you press play, nothing is loaded from YouTube.
How to control storage
You can clear or block site data in your browser settings. The site works fully without local storage; you will simply not see recent searches.
